Apartment hunting is a pain in my keester. Today and tomorrow I have five apartment showings lined up - and I just toured the first.
It was, as I'd expected, a bust.
I'd love to live in a tiny one-bedroom with a shared bathroom and kitchen. This house bellowed character, from the kitchen in the basement to the jenkity old furnishings - but I'm not looking for a sketchy-but-character-filled one-bedroom. I'm looking for a tolerable two-bedroom, and this place wasn't it.
But I have to remember, I'll be living in some very interesting places over the next two years. Wherever I end up in Japan, it'll be strange and different; when I get back to the States, if all goes well, I'll be moving to San Fransisco for law school, and will most likely end up in a rickety and very queer little flat somewhere. No doubt I'll have to hide the existence of my cat, Valentine, for a good few years yet.
Here's hoping the other three places I'm seeing today will show more promise, and at least a little bit of character. The place I'm in now is entirely too uninteresting for its own good.
